If you played Portal and were interested in a some more backstory you should checkout the new Portal 2 comics Valve is posting online for free. They will post the second installment tomorrow so check back at IGN or here, ill post the link then.
Really looking forward to how this character plays into Portal 2. It will add a bit more to Portal 2 to have some other characters, especially one with a companion cube strapped to its back.
