Goodbye, Old Friend!

Last night my iPhone 2G died.  Ive had it for at least 4 years now and it decided to give up the ghost last night after it crash for the last time.  I was given the phone for free by a friend while I worked for Dotster.  It was all banged up from a motorcycle crash the previous owner was in and because of that didn't turn on or off.  It went to sleep just fine and if it crashed I could always start it by plugging it in.

Its been a great device to own and really changed the way I approached personal computing.  For instance, if I am at home, I don't boot up a computer to check a website, I just go to mobile Safari.  Checking email was just as easy.  I wasn't a huge fan of apps, but the Facebook and Twitter apps were a bit nicer than the web versions.

Apple really made a nice device in the iPhone 2G and if I could hand out "amazing tech" awards I would give one to the developers of mobile Safari.  Mobile Safari is one of the best browsers of all time. Ive never seen a better mobile web browser on any device ived used.  The Android browsers are good but the polish of mobile safari is outmatched.

I always figured if the iPhone died I would purchase an iPod touch or something but im not sure Ill replace it.  I think ill do without it for a few weeks and decide then.  I lived without it before and im sure I can live without it again.

Ill let you know how it goes.  So far, I am just fine.

PS I am not fond of desktop Safari.  Its just not created in the way I want to think about the web.
