Finally Saw "The Office"

+

I finally saw the TV Show "The Office" on Netflix yesterday.  Ill talk more about Netflix later.

Francesca and I wanted to watch something light hearted and funny and we just got Netflix so we saw The Office and decided to give it a shot.  Weve heard that its basically the best show ever or whatnot so we gave it a spin.

Long story short I totally get why this show is popular but I won't seek it out to watch it again.  Makes sense why its really popular though.  Its shot in a faux "reality TV" format, reality TV being a popular thing.  It is Dilbert-esque in that it shows the typical inept manager and "play it safe" office culture.  It seems to(since its my first show I cant confirm this, but it seems like this is the case) contain threaded plotlines, as in certain themes and stories are carried through the shows.  But at the end of the day none of that makes me want to watch it.  I don't want to spend time in that office, that office is kind of boring.

First off, the whole "uncomfortable comedy thing" would get old.  Like I get that it is a show that riffs our office culture where few people can be themselves, but I don't want to really experience that on a regular basis.  Ive been there and it really sucks, I don't mind chuckling about it but id rather not go back to that kind of thing regularly.  For me personally, id rather spend time with a cast of characters on an alien planet trying to find a way back home than an office full of people id never spend time with.

I know this show is a remake of a British comedy.  I know if I don't mention that someone will comment on that.

In the end I just won't watch it again because nothing really drew me to it.  I wrote this piece about it because it its intense popularity.  I know that some love this show and please understand just because I don't like doesn't mean you can't still enjoy it.  Please, buy it on DVD and watch it every day!  The show just seems played out to me already and I just saw one episode.

Feel it worth mentioning that I don't really watch Cable or broadcast TV.  Haven't for years.  I think people that watch broadcast TV and Cable regularly build a tolerance for shows that I don't have anymore.  Live without it for 5-7 years and I guarantee when you watch the "latest hot show" you won't get it either.

I doubt you will miss much though, there are others things that are just as good.
